It's spring! Technically. Between every rain cloud there's a sunny lining - and rain or shine, the Kitsilano Farmer's Market is back on May 11th, 2014. This Farmer's Market has been a Vancouver staple since it first emerged in 1995. Since then, the public has expressed a growing demand for local produce. This market not only offers great organic and seasonal produce, but has also brought in vendors from all over British Columbia that sell farm-raised meat, packaged goods, preserves, and crafts to name just a few products. Here's a little preview of what you can expect to see at the market this year.

More Than  Just Your Average Greens

High-quality organic produce from farmers that care; what else can you ask for? While many come to the market expecting to see solely dozens of produce stands, a welcomed addition to the market in recent years has been merchants that sell premium organic grain fed meat and fresh seafood selections In addition to this protein menu, a beautiful array of (truly) free-range organic eggs, artisan cheese, and milk make the list - making the market a place anyone can go to for their weekly staples.

Healthy and Homemade Delights

Once every two weeks or so, vendors come to the market selling a variety of fantastic homemade products that introduce unique flavours. Products ranging from varieties of salsa, to pates, breads, chips, cookies, cakes, candies, nuts, jams, and honey (to name a few) are just the beginning. Often ready with a sample tray, these established and start up vendors set up camp at the market to introduce their products to the public not only to give people the opportunity to take their favourites home, but also to provide the public with information on where they can find their products year round.

Specialty Items for Those Special Diets

Not all the sweets and savouries sold at this market are packed full of ingredients that are bad for you. In fact, healthy vegan, gluten-free, and organic recipes are a top priority for merchants and consumers alike as the Kitsilano Farmer's Market is here to promote health and well-being for all. Chock full of knowledge, these vegan cookers, gluten-free bakers, and honeybee wax candle stick makers are keen to teach their customers how their goods are made, and what's inside - which is more than anything a label at a market can tell you.

The Kitsilano Farmers Market is open every Sunday between 10am and 2pm from May 11th to October 19th. The market is situated at the corner of 10th Avenue and Larch Street, in the parking lot of the Kitsilano Community Centre. A visit to the market makes a perfect weekly outing for yourself and the family. And with new vendors to discover every week, spring is a great time of year to take advantage of the fresh items we look forward to during the winter season, straight from your local community.
